Dec 10, 2024

On October 2, Asia Encounter, in partnership with Bhaya Cruises, launched the high-impact “Green Mission – Halong Bay Recovery” campaign. The Green Mission – Revive Halong Bay Campaign

After Typhoon Yagi (also known as Storm No. 3) devastated Halong Bay, the Green Mission – Revive Halong Bay campaign was launched with the specific and urgent goal of restoring the bay’s radiant natural beauty. Directly in the path of the storm, Halong Bay – one of Vietnam’s most famous natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site – has witnessed severe devastation and environmental degradation.

When Typhoon Yagi made landfall, Halong City and Quang Ninh Province suffered the heaviest consequences. The bay’s beautiful coastline has been damaged and a large amount of waste has polluted the waterways. Among the floating waste is household waste, Styrofoam, tree branches and debris from aquaculture rafts. This seriously threatens the bay’s water quality and marine ecosystem, in addition to spoiling the bay’s aesthetic appeal.

The program aims to restore the natural beauty of Halong Bay while building a culture of responsibility and care for this jewel of the world by addressing short-term and long-term issues.

The bay’s cleanliness was immediately improved by these efforts, ensuring a safer habitat for marine life and a more beautiful setting for tourists. The campaign drew attention to the potential risks and long-term damage that plastic and household waste in Halong Bay can cause to the ecosystem.

Over 100 volunteers and members from various groups put in countless hours of work, demonstrating the importance of collaboration and the impact of dedication to a common goal.

By engaging local people, businesses and tourists, the campaign has helped raise awareness of the importance of reducing waste, avoiding single-use plastics and adopting sustainable practices in everyday life. These initiatives ensure that Halong Bay will always be the pride of Vietnam and a valuable representation of the country’s natural beauty.

Asia Encounter believes that the success of this campaign will be the beginning of many environmental protection campaigns and projects in the future. Many initiatives like this can change the way of thinking and care for the natural world. We hope that both locals and visitors will take small actions such as cleaning up after playing and not littering the bay. Although modest in scale, these activities support the protection of Halong Bay’s environment.

The Green Mission – Revive Halong Bay initiative has been a huge success, with remarkable results and significant media coverage of environmental responsibility. This partnership between Bhaya Cruises and Asia Encounter demonstrates the collective efforts of a group committed to cleaning up Halong Bay. These are the first stages of Asia Encounter’s long-term contributions to the diversity of Vietnam.

Join Asia Encounter’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable tourism. By working together, we can ensure that places like Halong Bay remain beautiful for many years to come.
